        What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional system of yoga, originating from India, where you learn a set sequence of hatha yoga postures that are linked together with slow movements, breath, and internal energy control.

This looks like acrobatics, what’s up with that?

The Ashtanga Yoga practice seemingly might look like an acrobatic exercise, but this practice is fundamentally all about the breath, and has no requirement on flexibility or strength, but you can expect to become stronger and more flexible. The movements are always adapted to the body of the student, and the practice of a 20 year-old will obviously look different from the practice of a 70 year-old. We all practice together.

What can I expect with a regular practice?

When practiced regularly, you can slowly start seeing positive changes in your body, such as improved concentration, more vibrant health, more strength, improved digestion and better sleep, not to mention the ability to tie your own shoes when reaching old age.

        Meet your teacher

        Alexander Lemberg – E-RYT & YACEP certified since 2015

Alex is a Swedish-speaking Finn who found yoga by accident due to various health issues, and then became a certified Hatha yoga teacher in 2014.

During the summer of 2015 Alex went to an Ashtanga Yoga summer camp in Houtskari with Petri Räisänen and Juha Javanainen from Helsingin Astangajoogakoulu, and fell in love with the depths of the ashtanga yoga practice.

Since then Alex has been teaching over 5000 hours of yoga classes with a wide range of people, while managing Yogashala Raseborg in Tammisaari, and has actively been practicing with different world renowned teachers on different workshop, such as Eddie Stern, Kino McGregor, Simon Borg-Olivier, and also online courses with David Garrigues.

“To me it’s important that the practices are taught in a safe, healthy and effective way for each student. As a yoga teacher it is important to understand that all people are different, and to embrace the strengths and differences of each individual.

In my teaching style you will learn to turn your senses inward (pratyāhāra), you will improve your focus and learn to practice to the rhythm of your own breath. The meditation and concentration makes the practice meaningful, and is a gateway to your inner dimensions.

        Ashtanga Yoga – for whom?

This course is open for anyone who is interested in learning a physical and dynamic tradition of yoga practice, wether you have previous yoga experience or not.

This is a mixed group of beginners and non-beginners. There are no age, or body type discriminations in my teaching style.

What do we cover in the course?

We do a quick repeat of the basic concepts during the first session, such as breathing technique, bandhas, dristi and vinyasa.

During these classes we practice a combination of asanas from the primary series, modified for a mixed group setting.

When there is time, we will also familiarize ourselves with some healthy back-therapy postures from the second series, and other hatha yoga practices.
